Bambino Mio for your Baby~ GIVEAWAY!

If you're anything like us (and our kids!) we're excitedly looking forward to summer! The snow is melting, and though there's still a mountain of it left to melt I am beginning to feel 'spring in the air'...and once spring arrives summer is just around the bend. One of our favorite summertime activities is playing in the kiddie pool, or simply having hours of 'water playtime' outside! Childish Notions sent us a swim nappy to try out. It is perfect for any type of water fun - outdoor or indoor! It's especially great for public swimming pools as you need some sort of protection against any unwanted "accidents!" :) We love our new polka dot swim nappy. Not only is it cute beyond compare but it has some great features as well. The legs and waistband fit snuggly and provide a leak proof nappy for your time in the pool. It even works well for our kids who are on the skinny side. I also really appreciated that the lining was cotton - so it's ultra soft on your little one's sensitive skin. Of course, the outer layer is perfect to help contain accidents. The idea of the Bambino Mio Swim Nappies is simple, but fabulous. It is a wonderful alternative to disposable swim diapers and much more comfortable too (no swelling diapers in the pool!) If you're looking for a great, high quality swim diaper for your baby or toddler this summer I'd recommend to check out the Bambino Mio Swim Nappy!

Childish Notions also carries a variety of other Bambino Mio products - all which sound wonderful! We also received a pack of Mio Wipes - all natural baby wipes. We use cloth wipes at home, but I've always struggled to find a good alternative for when we are out and about. I've mostly caved to using the regular store-bought wipes even though I know they contain chemicals, etc...so I was thrilled to try out a natural, yet disposable baby wipe! We are very pleased with the ones from Bambino Mio. They are enriched with soothing natural Aloe Vera, Chamomile and Lavender and have a gentle scent to them...nothing even close to as strong as the regular scented wipes are! As well, the lavender provides a natural fragrance so there are zero artificial fragrances used in these wipes. Mio Wipes are also alcohol free, biodegradable & flushable and perhaps my favorite feature is that they are actually made to help PREVENT diaper rashes instead of causing them (as I find the regular wipes often do).

Bambino Mio has a great product line...filled with natural, eco-friendly products that are designed especially for parents & children! You'll find accessories for cloth diapering (I love the sounds of their Nappy Bucket!), and more! Head over to Childish Notions and take a look. :)

WIN IT!
Childish Notions is giving away a Bambino Mio swim nappy and a package of Mio wipes to one lucky reader! In order to get one entry, head over to Childish Notions and let us know another one of their products that you'd love to try.

Sweeten a sore throat!

The boys have the sniffles again, and sore throats to go along with it. We certainly have had a rough winter, with illnesses, and it seems we're not the only ones. Richard and I started using manuka honey lozenges a while ago, and we really felt it made a difference - our throats weren't as sore, and it seemed like the cold went away faster too. So we were really pleased when Wedderspoon Organic decided to make some lozenges for kids as well!

"What is Manuka Honey?
Manuka honey is a highly nutritious, special kind of honey that comes from the Manuka flower nectar gathered by the bees in New Zealand. Manuka is a Maori word that refers to the medicinal flower that grows on both New Zealand's North and South Islands. Manuka Honey is a completely natural, holistic, bio-available and biodegradable product."
Manuka honey has many health benefits and is known for its antiseptic properties. Wedderspoon Organic sells Manuka honey as well as other varieties of honey, soaps, lip balms, lozenges and candles.

The adult lozenges are quite large (about the size of a quarter), and are available in Eucalyptus & Bee Propolis, Ground Ginger & Echinacea and Lemon and Bee Propolis varieties. We especially like the ginger flavour, although we've noticed that the 'vapours' from the eucalyptus ones helps to clear out the nasal passages. But, the size was a bit overwhelming for kids, and the tastes weren't really kid-friendly.
The kids lozenges are available in 3 flavours: orange, blackcurrant and lemon. We were sent a package of orange lozenges to try out. They are much smaller than the adult lozenges (about the size of a nickel) and the taste is much more appealing to kids!  Our boys both like them a lot, and Jonathan says his throat feels better after he's had one. (Daniel doesn't really know how to tell me how he's feeling to much yet.)

As with any hard candy, I would recommend using the lozenges under adult supervision. And, of course, like all honey and honey products, never give the lozenges to a child under 1 year old.

From the Wedderspoon FAQ:
I know Organic Manuka Honey is great for adults and children above 1 year of age. Can I give it to an infant aged younger than 12 months?
NO! Contrary to some competitors’ websites where they intentionally take a huge risk in saying it is ok to give honey to infants, it is not! Infants under 12 months of age do not have a fully developed immune system yet, so they should not be given any kind of honey to eat. Infant botulism is a rare, but serious paralytic disease caused by the spores of a bacterial microorganism, Clostridium botulinum. These spores can germinate, grow and produce toxins in the lower bowel of some infants and pasteurization (sterilization) CANNOT kill such spores. Do not let any competitor tell you any differently! Older children and adults are normally able to ingest the spores without any harm.
Wedderspoon products are available online: from Canada or internationally, go to the Canadian website. From the USA, purchase from this website. We've also found their products at a local organic grocery store and at health food stores near us, so you might want to check if a store near you carries these great lozenges.

Just like Mom & Dad! ~ Discount

Booster seats = babies, right?! Technically, booster seats are used regularly for babies, but oftentimes they are also used for toddlers or even preschoolers who are just too short to sit on a regular chair (and eat neatly) at the table. Our 4 year old son is a perfect example of this! He CAN sit on a regular chair but it's rather difficult for him to eat well as he's really too low. We'd been using a booster seat for him, but it wasn't his favorite place to sit. We recently received the KABOOST - a perfect solution to our problem! Kids Lane sent us a portable chair booster from Kaboost, and it has made mealtime for our 4 year old SO much more enjoyable! So what exactly is a KABOOST? It's a compact, portable chair booster that snaps on underneath any kitchen or dining room chair, and raises the chair so that your child can sit at the table just like a big kid...or just like mom and dad! With the KABOOST our son is able to sit on a regular chair, yet at a proper height so that he is able to eat with ease.

There are so many aspects about the KABOOST that we are loving. Tate is now able to easily slip off and on the chair by himself without having to always be pulled and pushed closer as you need to do with a regular booster seat. It is incredibly easy to put on and it simply snaps on underneath the chair with minimal effort. Each side of the Kaboost has it's own height setting - so there are 2 different heights you can use it at (very clever!). It is very sturdy and stays attached even when you move the chair, and it's easy to fold up and carry with you to grandpa & grandma's house, a restaurant, etc.! It also comes in several colors so you can choose one to match the colors of your home, or maybe even let your child choose one in their favorite color. The KABOOST is an amazing invention and we would recommend it to any family with young children!

Kids Lane carries a HUGE selection of products for babies, kids and parents. I could spend hours browsing through all that they have to offer (Shhh!! Don't tell but I already have ;) ) You'll find some really cute Decor items, loads of great travel accessories (for all those summer holidays coming up!), maternity items for moms-to-be, lots of fun Melissa & Doug toys for playtime or gifts, and SO MUCH more!

BUY IT!
Kids Lane is offering you a coupon to be used on-line or in store. In order to receive 10% off your purchase of a Kaboost Chair Booster use the code: glimpse1104. Coupon only applies to regular priced items and cannot be combined with any other promo that may be going on at the same time. Expires April 21, 2011.

Coloring Naturally

Coloring and making artwork is a wonderful activity for toddlers! While we do workbooks and pre-homeschool work with our oldest boy, Emily happily sits and colors away each morning. She loves to draw, "write letters", or just scribble. :) However, I'm sure that most moms (if not all of us! :) ) have had at least one (if not many! haha) moments where we are pulling crayons, markers, playdough, etc. OUT of our kids' mouths! Kids seem to like to taste arts and crafts supplies as well as create with them. Natural Belly and Baby recently sent us some Clementine Crayon Rocks. They are natural soy crayons and have quickly become favorites for coloring pictures in our home! With the Clementine crayons you don't have to worry that your child will be swallowing harmful chemicals if they decide to taste test a crayon or two. The crayon rocks are just right for little hands and are perfect for coloring. Some crayons you have to push hard with in order to make bright, vivid colors...but this is not an issue with the soy crayons from Natural Belly and Baby. The crayon rocks color ever so easily - and the colors are as vibrant as can be. They spread, blend and layer with ease and best of all they are a safe, non-toxic crayon that is the perfect tool for your little one to color and create with!

Natural Belly and Baby also threw a sample of some Milk Bath they carry in their online shop. It's perfect for kids, or even for a tired mommy who might want a nice soak in the tub. The milk bath is made with low allergy goat milk powder and lavender - with all ingredients being certified organic and natural. The milk bath is natural soothing and can help with dry skin too. We really enjoyed it...the scent was gentle, yet delightful and made for a wonderful, relaxing bath.

BUY IT!
Natural Belly and Baby is offering our readers a 15% discount on anything in their online shop (excluding Deuter Backpacks). Use the code: glimspe002. Expires April 15, 2011.

Omaïki - products for baby and Mama!

In my quest to use more natural and reusable products for our family, and less disposable products, I thought I'd come to a halt. With each of our babies I've used washable nursing pads. But, usually they're not enough, and I end up leaking through. Frustrating when you're at home, but downright embarrassing and difficult if you're out and about! So with the boys, I used washable nursing pads at home and disposables with a "leak-proof" construction when I was out. I didn't leak through anymore, but I had to keep buying the disposable pads, and I was contributing to more garbage. Although I wasn't really happy with it, it was a workable solution, and I hadn't found anything that worked for me.

Since Annalies was born, however, I found out about the Canadian company Omaïki. Created by 2 young mothers who wanted to share their love of environmentally friendly products, Omaïki started out with washable diapers, but quickly expanded their product line to include other items for baby and mama. I will be reviewing a cloth diaper from Omaïki in a couple of weeks - keep watching!

I was pleasantly surprised when Omaïki sent me a package of Ultimate washable nursing pads (they're also available in regular, which provides light protection). 2 pairs in a pack means that you can have 1 pair drying and 1 on the go! (Or, if you're like me, you immediately have to have another pack, because you don't want to wash them that often!) These pads are constructed like Omaïki's cloth diapers: they have a layer of PUL on the outside to prevent leaking (hooray!), and bamboo viscose on the inside. These are the only cloth nursing pads I've been able to wear outside the house with confidence! Even though I know there's milk on the pads, they never feel soggy or wet against my skin. This is such a wonderful feeling, after having that "I leaked" feeling so many times with the boys.

Omaïki's product line includes:
  • cloth diapers (all-in-ones, pocket diapers, fitted diapers and covers)
  • swim diapers
  • training pants
  • night-time underpants
  • wet bags in several sizes
  • feminine protection
  • nursing pads
  • layette items such as hooded towels and change pad covers
All are designed, developed and produced in Canada.
"Omaïki products are environmentally friendly in terms of the manufacturing process and in the way they are used; they are economical, sustainable and comfortable because they are made from a soft material that has both aesthetic and contemporary appeal."
 BUY IT!

Omaïki is offering Glimpse readers a 10% discount at their online store. Use the code: glimpse at checkout. Offer open to Canadians and expires June 30, 2011.

Pacify your baby!

Maybe you're lucky, and your baby doesn't need a pacifier or thumb to be soothed. Or maybe, you're lucky and your baby accepted the first pacifier you tried! We were not so lucky. Our baby girl likes to suck on something (Mom makes the best pacifier). Until just this week, when she found her thumb and decided she could suck her thumb without gagging, nothing was a good as Mom. Pacifier after pacifier would go in, only to be promptly spit out, following usually by a rascally grin! On the same day she started sucking her thumb, she also, tentatively, and only when SHE is in the mood, started accepting a pacifier.

Binky
One brand of pacifier we were happy to try was Playtex, because of their reputation, and because of our experience with other products by the same brand. So when Playtex offered to send us a goodie bag including two different types of pacifiers, we jumped at the chance. Maybe one of these would satisfy our girl's choosy nature! Both are BPA-free and Phthalate-free and are available in several colours and sizes.

One pacifier is the Binky! The nipple is round, with a few ridges around it for gum stimulation - it's shape is designed to be "Most like Mother." We tried the decorated Binky. It's made of silicone, which is durable and easy to clean. The handle makes it easy for a parent to hold on to - especially handy if you're trying to convince your baby that THIS is the one! :)

Ortho-Pro
Another pacifier we tried is the Ortho-pro with sterilizing cover. The nipple of this pacifier is angled, and contoured (smaller at the bottom and bigger at the top). I really like the snap 'n clean cover - just fill the cover to the line with water, stick the pacifier in the cover until it clicks, and place in the microwave for 2 minutes! Very quick and handy! :)

So far, neither of these pacifiers is THE one for Annalies - but she will accept them both for a short time. :) Then again, none of the pacifiers we've tried has been a rousing success, so maybe we just have to accept that.

Keep watching Glimpse in the next couple of weeks for a great Playtex giveaway package!!

Hero's in the Making ~ GIVEAWAY!

We love to imagine around here! At any time of the day you could find our kids fighting fires, pretending to be kings & queens or maybe even driving a recycling truck. :) I believe that encouraging my kids to use their imagination is so important. Kidzkapes believes in imagination too, and that is one of the main reasons for the existence of Kidzkapes! The goal is to give kids a fun excuse to "get off the couch", increase their activity and imagine.
Kidzkapes creates colorful, fun and personalized play capes that will get your child imagining, running and coming up with all sorts of super-hero adventures. We received one of these wonderful play capes, and it's perfect for our little heroine. Each cape is hand-sewn with 100% cotton. I noticed that the capes have been sewn well - so they'll be durable enough to last through most of the adventures that your kids may dream up. Another great aspect is that they come in two sizes - one for younger pre-schoolers (2-5) and one for those who are a little older (5-7yrs). They fasten shut with an easy-to-use velcro fastener around the neck - so even little hands put on or take off these play capes.

One of my favorite parts about Kidzkapes is that you can personalize them! There is quite a large selection of colorful prints, solid colors, emblem shapes & colors, and after you've chosen all those you can even add your child's initial on the back of their super-hero cape! What a fun way to design a cape that'll really capture your little one's personality.

WIN IT!
Kidzkapes is giving away a custom-made cape to one of our readers! In order to get one entry, check out either Kidzkapes on Etsy or their website and let us know how you'd design your cape if you won.

Glow Baby - Discount

Glow Baby is a Canadian company whose products are designed for someone like me - forgetful! I'm not sure if I'm allowed to blame it on "new mommy brain" - if so, it's been like this since our oldest was born! I am increasingly dependent on lists, notebooks, planners, etc, to keep life running mostly smoothly. Glow Baby makes notebooks, calendars, and journals. Their product list includes:

  • babysitter notes

  • baby's first journal
  • baby's first foods
  • family organizer calendar

"Glow Baby is dedicated to providing unique and user-friendly scheduling tools for today's busy parents. "
I will be reviewing some Glow Baby products in the future, but they're offering Glimpse readers a great discount now! I'm so looking forward to trying out some of their stuff, as I need help with getting better organized!

Scholastic Monday - Monster Manners

As a parent there are a multitude of things that we want (or need to!) teach our children! Manners is definitely one of them...and in my experience so far, it takes a lot of patience and practice and reminding to teach our children manners. Of course, it helps a LOT too if us as parents practice our manners as well! ;) We start working on manners in our home as soon as our children are old enough to communicate, and it's so nice when we see that certain manners are almost becoming second nature to them. Of course...the list of manners can be rather long, so there's always more to learn and practice!

This week Scholastic Canada sent us a book that will come in handy when teaching your children their manners. Monster Manners by Hazel Hutchins is a colorful, fun and humorous book that talks about manners...and about what may happen if you do not mind your manners! Although most of the monsters are pretty friendly looking, there are a few that are probably a little more scary-looking than I would prefer. However, the gist of the book is good, and it's a unique tool that would be great for enforcing and teaching manners in your home. The end of the book is a hit in our home as well...as it ends with a manner that includes the most delicious part of the meal - dessert!

All in all, (if you don't mind a few scary-looking monsters) Monster Manners would be good one to use to aid in teaching your kids or at least reminding your kids of some very important manners.

Put Fun into Funtional! ~ GIVEAWAY!

Winter in the prairie provinces of Canada can be very looong! Along with the months of snow, blizzards and often very cold weather comes one part that I really would rather avoid - and that is how horrible DRY it is. Lips crack, we are constantly applying lotions because of dry skin, and the dry air certainly doesn't help with the congestion, coughs and stuffy noses that seem to lurk in most homes during the winter season. Crane Canada has a wonderful solution to get help moisten up our homes a little during these long winter months! Crane Canada carries humidifiers...but these are not just any humidifiers! They've put the "fun into functional" with a line of cool mist humidifiers that features adorable animals, sports humidifiers, and even a few licensed character humidifiers! Not only are they cute and fun, but they are also kid-friendly in many other ways. We love the how incredibly quiet our little cow humidifier is! It also includes some other great features such as an auto shut off when the water tank is empty, a water empty indicator, an easy to refill tank, and on top of all that it will output up to 8 liters of blessed moistness every day!! We've used our Crane humidifier during the night in our kids' room and you can certainly tell the difference! The usual dry, stale & stuffy bedroom had disappeared and in it's place was a bedroom that was absolutely refreshing to walk into.

Crane Canada's humidifiers would be a great addition to any home - especially during the cold/flu season! Even if you're gearing up for summer and don't want to look into getting a cool mist humidifier this year, I'd definitely encourage you to bookmark Crane Canada and check them out again in late summer in preparation for the next fall/winter season! Humidifiers are a great way to improve your health and home environment.

In addition to humidifiers, Crane has also introduced some wonderful sounding air purifiers! These sound like another great way to make your home a healthier place for your family, and they are perfect for using year round. The quality and styles of the products from Crane Canada are fantastic, and it is obvious that they care about giving us products that will make a difference in our homes.

WIN IT!
Crane Canada is giving a Glimpse reader an adorable animal humidifier of their own! In order to get one entry, head over to Crane Canada and let us know which style of humidifier you would choose if you won.

All wrapped up - The Sling Sisters!

The Sling Sisters is a great, local company! The 2 sisters, Sandra and Lori, started out making slings for themselves, and when people started asking about the slings, they began making slings for sale. Since then, they've gradually added other products to their lineup. We've been fortunate to try out several here on Glimpse! You can read about their custom-made pouch slings, washcloths, sandwich and snack bags and wetbags. Their latest products are a small and large size wetbag - the large one is big enough for collecting your cloth diapers while they're waiting to be washed. The small wetbags would be great for the cloth diapers you've used on the go, or as a make-up travel bag or...whatever you like! Sandra and Lori were kind enough to take pity on me and our baby who wants to be held, and gave me a wrap to review as well!

If you've been following us for a while, and I hope you have, you know we have a new baby (4 months old) in our house. Annalies likes playing on her own for a while, but she mostly likes to be with her parents, preferably as close as possible! So, in a house with 2 other kids, and many other jobs to do, how are you going to get stuff done if you are often holding a baby? One answer is a wrap - a carrier that consists of a long piece of cloth that you wrap around you in a specific way, so as to hold and support your baby while leaving your hands free!
"Our wraps are made from 100% organic cotton that is dye free and custom knit to meet our specifications right here in Canada!"
The Sling Sisters have several great attractive fabrics that they use for the coloured panel on their wraps.

photo taken by Jonathan, age 5!
I have used the wrap several times to carry Annalies - around the house, and also at a recent baby and kids expo. Putting on a wrap the right way is something you have to practice, and see, and the Sling Sisters have some great videos on their website to show you how to put on the sling and put your baby in! If you're local, or can visit them at a show, you can have a personal lesson, and they'll explain, demonstrate and offer tips to help you carry your baby. Once you've got the technique, and done it a few times, it's easy and quick to put the wrap on and put you baby in.

Annalies weighs over 16 1/2 pounds now, and just holding her, without a carrier, it doesn't take long before you start to feel tired, and your arms are sore. With the wrap, I was able to carry her for about 2 hours at the baby show. My back did get a bit sore at the end, but I was impressed with how balanced and supported Annalies was, and how easy it was for me - and I would never have been able to carry her for 2 hours just in my arms! The weight of the baby gets distributed over both shoulders and hips, so you're not straining one side or the other. It was so super easy to get around through the crowd with her in the wrap, and not have to worry about manoeuvering with a stroller around the booths and people! Annalies was very comfortable, as demonstrated by the fact that she quickly went to sleep and stayed asleep for much of the 2 hours!

Just So Good ~ GIVEAWAY ($50!)

We love our milk in our home...but I must admit that cow's milk is not normally what we keep in our fridge. Instead, we love different varieties. Our kids enjoy goat's milk the most...it's just easier for them to digest, and personally, I love the taste of almond milk. Recently we received some vouchers from So Good which has enabled us to try soy milk! I've used soy milk before (though not this particular brand) and it's gone over well in our home in the past. The soy beverage from So Good sounded wonderful and we were excited to give it a try. After several weeks of using their products, I can say that we are definitely satisfied with them! Their milk is filling, refreshing, and has a great flavor yet contains zero artificial flavors, colors or preservatives! We have really enjoyed drinking their soy beverage, using it in cereals and I've even used it in a variety of baking/meals during the past few weeks.

I've heard several arguments about soy products and whether they are good or bad for you...and I tend to lean towards the fact that soy is good for our bodies. There's been some scientific studies that have demonstrated that soy DOES have health benefits. Did you know that soy is actually good of your heart? They have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease when added to your diet. It is a great source of important vitamins and minerals such as calcium and vitamin D2 which are all necessary to maintain good health...and it's a wonderful alternative for those who cannot tolerate lactose or regular cow's milk. So Good soy beverage is filled with nutrition and contains 15 essential nutrients including calcium, vitamin D2 and vitamin B12. In addition to this, you can be sure that you're receiving quality products from So Good as their soy products are made from non-genetically modified soy protein.

So Good has a great selection of tasty beverages for you and your family! A few of these include Chocolate (yum!), Original, Vanilla, No Sugar Added Original, Omega DHA Vanilla and more! In addition to beverages they also sell another delicious soy treat - soy ice cream - or So Good frozen desserts! I honestly can hardly tell the difference between their frozen desserts and regular ice cream - it's that good. :)

If you're looking for a healthy beverage or frozen treat to add to your home why not give So Good a try? You're sure to enjoy So Good with their variety of flavors and the delicious, refreshing taste!

Clean Naturally ~ GIVEAWAY (3 WINNERS!!!)

Cleaning is something that we all do from time-to-time...or for most of us, I'm assuming we all spend at least some time every day doing a bit of cleaning - whether that be putting dirty dishes into the dishwasher, doing laundry, or wiping crumbs off the counters. :) It's just something that has to be done. We recently received a box of new cleaning products from Green Works to help us keep our home clean - naturally! Green Works cleaners are made from 95% natural ingredients and certainly get the job done well. First we gave their Laundry Detergent a try. The detergent from Green Works is good for sensitive skin, and is made with natural, plant-based cleaning ingredients. The laundry detergent worked great and our laundry was fresh & clean! The only downside was that I found the scent was a little too strong for my liking. However, Green Works does carry a fragrance-free choice (Free & Clear) that I'm sure would be a perfect fit for those of us who prefer unscented or mildly scented detergents.

Secondly, we received the All-Purpose Cleaner. This is a great product because it can be used anywhere! It's great for getting through the grease in your kitchen as well as the grime & dirt in your bathroom...and for everything else in between as well! It was easy to work with and definitely had great cleaning power, yet without all those icky chemicals & residues!

One of our favorites was the Cleaning Wipes from Green Works. These are wonderful to have on hand if you have young children. They're perfect for cleaning up spills and messes and are great for even simple tasks such as wiping off a table or a high chair before you or your little one sit down for a snack. We love how convenient and practical the cleaning wipes are!

Lastly...and also a favorite of mine...was the dishwashing liquid. Green Works has come up with a great formula that cuts grease fast yet is still gentle on hands. It is made with plant-based biodegradable cleaning ingredients and does a wonderful job of leaving your dishes sparkling clean. This would be a great addition to any kitchen, and it gives you the peace of mind that the dishes that will be going into your food & your mouth are washed with a dish soap that is natural and safe.

Comfy Clip ~ GIVEAWAY!

Both of our boys used pacifiers, one longer than the other, and we, like many parents, tried a variety of ways of keeping the pacifier close and clean. We searched for a paci clip that would keep the pacifier within reach, and be easy to use. Some clips we found, we couldn't figure out how to attach them. Others looked like they would be uncomfortable. Too bad we hadn't found the Comfy Clip!

"The Comfy Clip was designed with no steel clips or sharp edges, in fact both sides are engineered as flat as possible so even if the clip flips over there is no danger of injury to the child."

Many of the products we review on Glimpse are created by parents - and the Comfy Clip is no exception. Designed by a dad who realized the potential metal pacifier clips have for hurting children, the Comfy Clip is a safe alternative to the many pacifier clips available. This is the same Dad who designed the Learn 'n Turn utensil we reviewed here. The pacifier clip is compatible with the Learn 'n Turn, making it a handy table time addition as well - no more spoons or forks on the floor! :)

The Comfy Clip is available in 3 colours, and extra ribbons are available as well.  There are a few retailers in Ontario, and the clip is also available online.

Unfortunately, we have been unable to try out the Comfy Clip ourselves. Although both her brothers used a pacifier, Annalies has been steadily resistant to the idea! We are gradually catching on to the fact that she doesn't like pacifiers in her mouth - we have tried almost all the kinds readily available and still haven't found one she'll accept. So, we are saving the Comfy Clip for when she's ready to start using the Learn 'n Turn - I'm sure it will be handy then! We are still picking up "lost" forks and spoons from the floor and I'm sure she'll love the "Drop it!" game as well!

WIN IT!!

One lucky Glimpse reader will win a Comfy Clip in choice of colour! To enter, please visit Comfy Clip and tell us which colour you'd choose!

Her Little Seat ~ GIVEAWAY ($80!)

Packing, packing, packing! Any parent who's traveled with young children knows that in order to spend a week, a night, or even an evening away from home often requires a lot of extra bags and luggage! There just seems to be so many things that a little one needs. One of the items that we often find ourselves packing into our van is a high chair or booster seat. Both these items can take up quite a bit of space, but you gotta take what you gotta take, right?! :) What a Jewel recently introduced us to the most practical little high chair I've ever come across! My Little Seat is simply a cloth high chair with 4 ties and 2 harness straps. It slips over the top of almost any chair, ties on to keep it secure, and the 2 harness straps are use to help keep in even the most energetic little babes. My Little Seat is meant for babies who can sit up unassisted (from approx. 6 months) or for older toddlers who need a little extra security while sitting on a chair (up to 30 months). The best part about it is that the seat folds/rolls up into a small bag and easily fits into your diaper bag or even a purse! Jenna loves her My Little Seat and has enjoyed several meals in it already while we've been out and about. And as parents, we think it is one of the most innovative and smart products around! It's so nice not having to pack a high chair when traveling...and it's reassuring to know that Jenna will have a nice, safe place to sit anywhere we go! If you're looking for a great gift idea, we'd highly recommend My Little Seat from What a Jewel...it's portable, practical, compact and is even colorful & fun!

What a Jewel carries MANY more fabulous items as well. The shop is easy to navigate, colorful, eye-catching and best of all has a great selection of Gifts for Him, Gifts for Her and all sorts of goodies & accessories for babies and kids! You'll also find quality products for your home, and even some special items for your loved family pet. Head over and take a peek - I have a feeling you'll love the selection and prices at this Canadian online boutique & gift store!

Tiber River Naturals

Winter is the season for dry: air, hair, skin, lips. I use lip balm constantly, so maybe that's why my boys are so fascinated by it! :) Fortunately, as they don't have dry lips. I'm not really a fan of sharing my lip balm though (wonder why?) so we started looking around for a lip balm for Jonathan in a kid-friendly flavour. Luckily, we didn't have to look far from home, as there's a great shop called Tiber River Naturals not too far from us. They have 2 brick-and-mortar stores in Winnipeg, and also an online shop, where all of their products are available for purchase. If you are in the area, though, check out the Nail and Body bar as well - I've had a manicure, and it was a great experience!

Tiber River Naturals started in 1999 by a new mom, Adriana, who didn't want to go back to working outside the home. She knew how to make soap, so started selling her soaps at home parties. She progressed from there to making other personal care products as well, and, with her business partner Michelle, opened her first store in 2005. All of their products are made using using natural, environmentally friendly ingredients, and are made locally!

So, back to the lip balm. Jonathan and I went into the store to check out all the available flavours...and there are 9! They have testers, luckily, so we could smell before we chose! The names are fairly descriptive, and for those of you who will be shopping online, there's a description available, but for a kid, smelling all the different varieties is the ultimate test - and pleasure! The banana-flavoured lip balm appealed, in part because of it's name: Funky Monkey! Jonathan loves the taste and the smell - any of you Moms out there like banana kisses? :) I tried it a few times too (when permitted!) and found that the lip balm lasted longer than others I tried. I especially like that it's made from safe ingredients.

While we were at the shop, with baby in tow, Adriana, showed us their teething gel. Made from all natural ingredients, it tastes and smells like cloves, an "old-fashioned" remedy for toothache. A little certainly goes a long way, and it seemed to do the trick! Just drop a little on your finger and rub into baby's gums...relief!

Tiber River Naturals makes many other great products - we've tried the soap, and I've experienced a scrub and lotion during my manicure. There are more products for mom and baby, products (like shaving cream, deodorant, soap etc) with manly scents, and items to use in your home - like a produce wash with great reviews!

Tiber River Naturals products are available online, or at one of their 2 Winnipeg locations.

Amber Does the Trick!

Let's face it...teething is tough on both baby and mom! Our youngest little girl is still toothless, but there's no doubt about it that those teeth are bothering her - or maybe I should say WERE bothering her!! I've heard many, many great things about Amber Teething Necklaces, so we were thrilled when Natural Belly and Baby sent one over for us to try with Jenna. As far as I can tell it works VERY well. Before we put the necklace on her she was having a LOT of trouble sleeping and her cheeks were as rosy and red as can be. It took a few days of her wearing the amber necklace for me to notice a big difference, but after several days the red cheeks were gone (and still are gone!), and her cranky evenings and nights got a LOT better. Amber is a natural analgesic that has been used for centuries. Wearing Baltic amber close to the skin has a lot benefits! It has natural anti-inflammatory properties as well as helps to relieve pain and calm your baby without using any teething medicines or drugs. I love, love, love that I the necklace helps Jenna with teething and that I don't have to resort to giving her anything medications. The necklaces are affordable as well (approx. $20) and I'd definitely say that it would be a well-spent $20, and it may even save you money in the long run as you could probably fore-go the usual teething medicines! By having your baby wear the teething necklace every day it should help reduce the common symptoms related to teething such as; redness in the cheeks, swollen gums, diaper rashes and fevers.

Not only do the Baltic amber teething necklaces help your child, but they also are gorgeous! They are made from baltic amber gemstone beads and are made in the safest way possible for babies and young children (although you should always still supervise your baby while they're wearing a baby teething necklace).

Natural Belly and Baby also carries a variety of other useful, practical and fun products for moms and babies. You'll find products for play time, bath time, and so much more.

Diaper Pretty Baby! ~ GIVEAWAY!

A while back I did a review for Rockpretty Baby - an online shop based in Calgary, filled with products that are not only safe for our children but safe for the environment. We have certainly been enjoying our Lunch Punch sandwich cutters and the Bambu forks and spoons - they're great for take-along lunches and snacks.

Of course, only the 2 older kids can use either of these items, and Kelly, who operates Rockpretty Baby, realized that our baby would be "left out" so she sent along a reusable diaper for Annalies to use. We've been using the GroVia diaper for several weeks now.

The GroVia system is made up of a shell, in various great colours, and a snap-in insert. It's a one-size diaper with several adjustments for rise, and it closes with hook-and-loop tape, so it's very adjustable around the waist as well. The idea is that you can purchase organic cotton soaker pads and shells separately (pads are sold in packs of 2), so if an insert is used, you can just replace the insert and reuse the same shell, saving money and laundry! GroVia also makes a biodegradeable, compostable, disposable soaker for convenience on the go.

I found the GroVia a bit tricky to use at first, because I couldn't figure out how to properly adjust it for a smaller baby. I emailed Kelly, and she explained it to me very clearly, and even made a short video to demonstrate the diaper's use. Such great and fast service! :) Once I had it figured out, I like the diaper quite well. The "trick" was to fold the insert in so it didn't stick out over the edge at the front, and I'm not sure why I didn't think of this myself, but somehow it never occurred to me! The insert is a little bulky, but very absorbent, we found, and I really like the idea of using the shell several times with clean inserts.  It's easy to put on and adjust, and so far no leaks!

The diaper is also easy to care for - both the soaker pad and the shell can be machine washed and dried, although it's recommended to line-dry the shells to make them last longer.

The GroVia diapers used to be sold as a set of a shell and soaker pad together, so Rockpretty Baby has all their remaining sets discounted (no further discounts can be used for the specially-priced sets). Make sure to check out what they have and take advantage of this deal!

WIN IT!

Mummi Designs for YOU ~ GIVEAWAY!

I've always enjoyed being able to add a personal touch to both the products I use for my children, as well as to gifts that I give. I find that it really just adds more meaning...and shows that you've put thought into the gift. Plus, it's kinda fun to create items that you know will suit your style or the style of a family member or friend! Mummi Quilts is a wonderful Canadian shop that caters to those of us who like to have a say in what the end product we purchase will look like. Not only are you able to choose fabric designs/colors, but you can also personalized some items with a beautiful embroidered name. Jenna received an adorable Personalized Bunny Ear Blankie. It is so cute, and although she's never really been a fan of blankets, she really does love this little security blankie! What makes it more lovable is definitely the fact that the blanket is full of special little additions to keep her hands busy (or to chew on! ;) ). There are the soft bunny ears at the top for your little one to play with, as well as a "bunny tail" of several colorful ribbons. The ribbons are probably Jenna's favorite part of the blanket. In addition to that, there's a little toy link attached to each blanket so that you can attach the blanket to a carseat/stroller, or you can also use it to attach an additional toy to the blanket. Each blanket is made with high quality designer fabric, and of course you are able to choose the fabric of your choice for your little bunny ear blanket. These blankets are also personalized with your child's name in beautiful embroidery. We also really like the size of the blanket. It measures 12" x 12" so it is small enough to easily stuff into your purse or diaper bag. The Personalized Bunny Ear Blanket would make a perfect gift for a new mom or a mom-to-be!

We also received a matching personalized pullover bib. I LOVE this bib. Not only is it cute and colorful but it is BIG! It covers Jenna's entire front and does a very good job of keeping her clean (and yes...she is a pretty messy eater! ;) ). Another great feature is that the bib is a pullover - so that means no fussing with ties, snaps, etc. and your little one won't be able to pull it off nearly as easily! These bibs also have the added touch of your child's name embroidered onto them and would also make a great addition to a baby gift or simply to your own kitchen at home.

Mummi Quilts creates a variety of other fabulous items in her Mummi Studio right here in Canada! The handmade, personalized baby blankets are one of their main products. Their personalized bags also look very handy. You'll find some other useful accessories too like nursing covers, shopping cart covers and more!

Two Sweet Lil Sisters ~ GIVEAWAY!

I've always thought that sisters are special, and can have such great relationships and friendships with each other! I don't have a sister, but I love that our girls can share the sisterly bond. :) They're a little young yet to fully understand it of course, but I love doing little things to make them look like sisters, or to encourage the fact that sisters are special. One thing we love to do is dress them in matching or coordinating clothes. Lil Mama's Boutique recently made our two girls the an adorable set of sister dresses. They are made from the same style of fabric, but different colors. The fabrics are so delicate and beautiful - they even have some sparkles woven into the fabrics! The style of the dresses is wonderfully simple. It has an elastic neckband so you don't have to worry about any buttons, zippers, etc. I'd say that the dress has a relaxed and comfortable fit to it as well, which makes it great for wearing both at dressy occasions as well as for running around the house on any regular day.

Lil Mama's Boutique hand-makes everything in her etsy shop and you can definitely tell that the items are made with care! The seams on each item are professionally stitched and reinforced for durability. You'll find some really sweet dresses (even some fun reversible dresses!), as well as a variety of other accessories or clothing items. The owner from Lil Mama's Boutique was fabulous to work with and obviously has a great taste in fabric and style as she created our 2 little dresses on her own, without us choosing fabric...and as I mentioned - we love them and it's special to be able to dress the 2 little girls in our home in this sweet sister set. :)

WIN IT!
Lil Mama's Boutique is giving one of our readers a $30 gift certificate to either put toward something currently in her online etsy shop, or she can send some pictures of fabrics she's got on hand and you can custom make your item! In order to get one entry, head over to Lil Mama's Boutique and let us know which item or style you loved the best.
