It never hurts to be prepared. Whether you are you preparing for the arrival of a baby, the beginning of a new school year, or something more serious such as the possibility of a hurricane, a long power outage or a tornado, being prepared is ALWAYS a good thing. In fact, I've come to the realization over the past few years that even though I may not necessarily feel like doing the extra work or preparation ahead of time, I have never EVER EVER regretted being prepared.

With all the hot temperatures, summer is often a time when storms are brewing. In fact, we're already had quite a few pass through our little town this summer...with a doozy of a storm yesterday! Thankfully, everyone was safe and sound despite the hail, strong winds and heavy rains...however, it may not always turn out that way. This is when families need to be 'in the know' and be prepared for the worst. No matter where you live there is always the potential for either a natural or a man-made disaster. We recently received a copy of the Disaster Preparedness book which is filled with helpful tips, ideas and instructions on how to make sure that you, your family and your home are ready BEFORE disaster strikes!

The book covers a wide variety of topics ranging from producing and conserving drinkable water, generating emergency power, creating and maintaining emergency food supplies, First Aid care during a disaster and so much more. It is a great book to read ahead of time and even to be able to reference if disaster/weather warnings have been issued or to even have on hand after a disaster has occurred. The book is very 'matter of fact' and is written without any political or religious bias. It basically presents you with the facts and the ideas or solutions to the tricky situations that can occur when a disaster arrives on your doorstep. There are lots of worksheets and checklists that you can use as well to make sure that you've got all your ducks in a row.

Disaster Preparedness is a great book to invest in - especially in these summer months as this seems to be the time when more disasters occur. Head over to Alpha Books to pick up your own copy!

WIN IT!
